General Heating and Air Conditioning, Inc. has been installing York heating and cooling equipment for over 35 years. We want our customers to have a high-quality, dependable unit that will provide many years of trouble-free operation and superior indoor comfort.
To help our customers choose the right equipment to fit their specific needs, we have rated each of York's models and separated the top-rated products into three, easy packages: 1) Basic Temperature, 2) Peace-of-Mind, and 3) Total Comfort.
GHAC Rating Criteria
- Efficiency – All heating and cooling products are tested by AHRI (Air Conditioning, Heating & Refrigeration Institute) to confirm BTU output, SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating) and HSPF (Heating Seasonal Performance Factor). A higher rating indicates a lower amount of energy that is required to produce the rated BTU.
- Comfort – There are several factors which determine how comfortable you are in your indoor environment. Besides basic temperature control, the three biggest are increased humidity control, air filtration and air/temperature distribution. Each of these factors are improved by staged or modulated heating/cooling output and varying fan speeds. Systems with a higher potential to produce a more comfortable indoor environment have a higher rating.
- Dependability – What is the potential for the equipment to have a malfunction which may require a service call? This potential actually tends to increase with the complexity of the equipment and the quantity of additional features. The higher the potential for malfunction, the lower the rating.
- Serviceability – If the equipment does have a service malfunction, how easy is it to quickly repair (availability of replacement parts, difficulty of diagnosis, etc.).
- Value – When determining the value of each product, we look at the first four rating criteria and compare those with the cost of the equipment - in other words, “Cost” vs. “Performance”. So, a higher Value rating means, “More bang for the buck”.
