Delivery

We want to get your new equipment delivered, installed and running on your
schedule.

Choose one of three different "Delivery" options.

Standard

We make every effort to complete the delivery and installation of all new HVAC systems as quickly as possible. Our Standard installation schedule is typically 1 to 2 weeks (no more than 3 weeks) – depending on weather conditions and current demand.

Emeregency

When you need it fast, the Emergency option guarantees delivery and installation of your new HVAC equipment within 1 week. Selecting this option may require access for the installation technicians to work in your home after-hours (after 4:30PM, Mon-Fri) or weekends.

Off-Season

If you are upgrading a working system, or if the installation of your new equipment is not time-sensitive, you can save money by selecting the Off-Season delivery option. We will schedule the delivery and installation of your new equipment during mild weather conditions – when our install technicians are not so busy, and you won't miss your heating or cooling for a day or two – typically pre-Spring or early-Fall.

Warranty

Standard Warranty

Your new equipment is covered by the manufacturer's 10-Year Parts Warranty and 1st Year Labor Warranty. That means for the 1st year after the installation of your new equipment, the manufacturer will pay to replace any failed components at no additional cost to you1.

During the 2nd -10th year, the manufacturer will provide replacement parts only.
Diagnostic fees, shipping charges, parts installation costs, etc. are billed extra.

To help protect you from the potential of high repair costs, we offer two additional warranty options.

Extended Labor

The Extended Labor warranty is a low-cost warranty add-on plan that adds 2nd - 10th year Labor coverage to the manufacturer's Standard Warranty. With only a $50 per service deductible, the Extended Labor warranty covers all Diagnostic Fees and Parts Installation Fees associated with a failed part, for up to 10 years.1

Extended Labor Plus

The Extended Labor Plus option takes the regular, Extended Warranty a to the next level. With the Extended Labor Plus warranty you get the same 2nd - 10th year labor coverage, but with no deductible. For 10 years, you don't pay anything for service repairs.1

1 The manufacturer's warranties do not cover maintenance, maintenance-related
costs, or failures resulting from the lack of maintenance. See Maintenance Plans.

Air Quality

Air Quality

There's more to home comfort than temperature. Our Indoor Air Quality options help you and your
family breathe easier with cleaner, healthier indoor air.
Select up to 3 health and system-improving Indoor Air Quality options.

1. PREMIUM MEDIA AIR FILTER

When the heating or cooling equipment turns on, the air in your home travels through the registers and return duct(s) to the heating and cooling equipment where it is conditioned and sent back into the rooms of your house through the supply ducts. Small particles from numerous sources are suspended in your home’s air, just as they are suspended in the air outdoors. The largest of these particles will eventually come to rest and appear as dust. Smaller particles may come to rest, but with even the slightest disturbance will re-suspend into the air. These particles are very small, and come from natural sources such as dust and pollen and from manmade sources such as tobacco smoke or exhaust. The air cleaner is installed on or near the furnace or air handler and removes the particles that travel with the air that circulates through your heating and cooling system. Removing these particles keeps the equipment components clean and more importantly removes particles from the air you breathe. Particles are measured in microns, which is a unit of measure used for very small things (1 micron = 1/25,400 inch). For reference, the diameter of a human hair is approximately 100 microns

2. WHOLE-HOUSE HUMIDIFIER

Whole-Home Humidifiers use a natural evaporation process to generate comfortable humidity. Water flows through an evaporative pad and warm air from the furnace is drawn through it. This creates the pure water vapor that your HVAC system circulates throughout your home for optimum comfort.

Healthier air for a healthier family.

Bacteria, viruses and respiratory infections are more abundant in very dry conditions. That’s one reason why it is so important to maintain proper levels of humidity, to avoid an overly dry environment.

See savings you’ll be comfortable with.

Lower temperatures with proper humidity levels are more comfortable than, for example, dry air with a temperature that is 3 degrees higher. So let your humidifier add the necessary moisture and reduce your thermostat setting by 3 degrees to save as much as 5% on your heating bill.

Protect your precious furnishings.

Properly humidified air will protect valuables like fine art, musical instruments, leather and precious antiques. It also keeps wooden floors and the woodwork around doors and windows from cracking.

3. UV DISINFECTION SYSTEM

Ultraviolet (UV) irradiation has been used by hospitals and restaurants for years to help disinfect and prevent the spread of germs. Honeywell ultraviolet treatment systems apply UV technology to your heating and cooling system to zap and kill airborne and surface contaminants, helping you create a better home environment for your family.

The UV Light mounts inside your system near the indoor coil where mold and microbes may grow. Once activated, the ultraviolet light goes right to work. By using penetrating ultraviolet rays that disrupt the DNA an organism needs to reproduce, the UV light actually destroys microbial growth, resulting in a cleaner indoor coil and purer air..

• Cleaner, Healthier Air
• Helps to Eliminate Odors
• Improves System Performance
• Non-Toxic and Safe – No Ozone

Thermostat

THERMOSTAT OPTIONS

Your wall thermostat is the primary interface to your heating and cooling system. It is the part of your system that you see and touch the most, so we require our thermostats to be dependable and easy to operate, and they must look as good as they perform. That's why we have chosen to offer thermostats options from Honeywell, Inc., the industry-leading thermostat manufacturer.

Whether you’re home often or spend life on the go, Honeywell’s T Series thermostats have the features you need for comfort and energy savings. All T Series thermostats feature Honeywell’s engineering excellence that has delivered comfort and efficiency for more than 100 years.

Install Plan

How do you want your new heat pump system installed? That's actually a question for you to
decide.

At GHAC, Inc. we offer three different install options for you to choose from.

1. The GHAC Way is an all-inclusive heat pump change-out option. Everything associated with your heat pump (except existing ductwork & registers) is installed new.

2. The Peace-of-Mind install plan includes all of the necessities, plus some of the items that, "the other guys" are likely to leave out, but help to ensure system reliable and dependability.

3. The Basics install plan includes the minimum necessary tasks for a quality replacement heat pump installation. This plan may be the ideal solution for customers upgrading a 10 year old system or who are simply looking for a lower cost installation.

• One Install Plan selection is required.

• We default all of our proposals to "The GHAC Way",

• Some installation tasks may be required depending on local codes, missing or damaged materials or refrigerant differences. If an installation task is required but not included in the selected Install Plan, the install technician will identify those issues before proceeding.

General Heating and Air Conditioning, Inc. has been installing York heating and cooling equipment for over 35 years. We want our customers to have a high-quality, dependable unit that will provide many years of trouble-free operation and superior indoor comfort.

To help our customers choose the right equipment to fit their specific needs, we have rated each of York's models and separated the top-rated products into three, easy packages: 1) Basic Temperature, 2) Peace-of-Mind, and 3) Total Comfort.

GHAC Rating Criteria

  1. Efficiency – All heating and cooling products are tested by AHRI (Air Conditioning, Heating & Refrigeration Institute) to confirm BTU output, SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating) and HSPF (Heating Seasonal Performance Factor). A higher rating indicates a lower amount of energy that is required to produce the rated BTU.
  2. Comfort – There are several factors which determine how comfortable you are in your indoor environment. Besides basic temperature control, the three biggest are increased humidity control, air filtration and air/temperature distribution. Each of these factors are improved by staged or modulated heating/cooling output and varying fan speeds. Systems with a higher potential to produce a more comfortable indoor environment have a higher rating.
  3. Dependability – What is the potential for the equipment to have a malfunction which may require a service call? This potential actually tends to increase with the complexity of the equipment and the quantity of additional features. The higher the potential for malfunction, the lower the rating.
  4. Serviceability – If the equipment does have a service malfunction, how easy is it to quickly repair (availability of replacement parts, difficulty of diagnosis, etc.).
  5. Value – When determining the value of each product, we look at the first four rating criteria and compare those with the cost of the equipment - in other words, “Cost” vs. “Performance”. So, a higher Value rating means, “More bang for the buck”.

Maintenance

The average heating/cooling system operates in excess of 3,000 hours per year. In severe weather, some systems may run for 72 hours without cutting off.

As a comparison, if you drove your car 3,000 hours a year at just 40 miles per hour, that would be 120,000 miles per year! That's a lot of miles!

If you change your car's oil every 5,000 miles, that would have you at the oil-change center every 14 days! With tires, fluids, belts, breaks, shocks and everything else, you would spend in excess of $4,000 every year maintaining your car.

You don't expect your car to operate without regular maintenance and you certainly shouldn't expect your heating and cooling "system" to either.

Regular, proper maintenance is critical for both the dependability and the efficiency of your heating and cooling equipment.

Our Premium Maintenance Agreements are designed to take great care of both you and your HVAC equipment.

Choose between A) 1st Year Maintenance, B) 10-Year Maintenance, or No Maintenance (not
recommended).

Approved Repair Costs – Once a diagnosis has been made, the technician will provide options and cost estimates before proceeding with repairs.

Equipment Trade-In

Equipment Trade-In

Have you ever wondered why, when you buy a new vehicle, you can get a "trade-in" on your old car, but you don't get anything when you upgrade your furnace or air conditioner?

Well, so did we! And we decided to do something about it!

Our service technicians assign each unit an objective "Grade" with our exclusive GHAC Grading App.

The grade is based on the equipment's Age, Condition and Performance.

The Higher the Grade – the Higher the Trade-In Value.

Why does GHAC "Value" your old heating and cooling equipment?

  1. Just like in the automoblie industry, a trade-in value makes a new purchase much more affordable.
  2. Also like cars, there is a growing market for quality, pre-owned HVAC equipment.
  3. Most older HVAC equipment has otherwise, hard-to-find service parts.
  4. Even non-working heating and cooling units have some scrap-value.
  5. Our Apprentice Training Program greatly benefits from refurbishing older HVAC equipment.

System Grades

Rarely does someone think about the age or condition of their heating and air conditioning equipment - until it quits working. Even then, most people have little or no idea when it's best to repair or replace a non-functioning system.

For that reason, our technicians use our exclusive "Grading App" to assign an objective Grade to each residential system. The Grade is easy to understand and is based on the equipment's Age, Condition and Performance.

The System Grade helps you (and us) make the best decisions regarding the repair or replacement of your heating and cooling equipment. It also allows you to track the status of your systems and effectively plan for the future.

Grade Status Recommendation
A Ecellent Repair
B Good Repair
C Average Compare Repair vs. Replacement Cost
D Poor Recommend Replacement
F Very Poor Replace

After each Repair Service Call, the technician will provide the customer with a Score Card showing the current system Grade and instruction on how to easily get additional information if desired.

  1. 1. Check Credentials. Before making your selection, call the Better Business Bureau to make sure that the dealer is reputable.
  2. Make sure the dealer is associated with a reliable manufacturer. Dealers should be taking advantage of factory training offered by their manufacturer. As a result, when they make recommendations, you can be more assured that they have selected the right size system for your home, and that they have been trained in installation and service of your product.
  3. Ask for references. Former customers are an excellent source of reference. Consider calling one.
  4. Expect an on-site evaluation. A good dealer will take a thorough look at your home, ask questions and evaluate your overall comfort needs before making a recommendation. Beware of a dealer that simply takes information over the phone.
  5. Check local and state licenses. Depending on where you live, dealers may have to comply with certain local or state regulations, so ask to see proof of these licenses, as well as insurance forms for liability and workmen’s compensation.
  6. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Ask for details about the firm’s experience and the expertise of its staff. This is particularly important if you’re also adding or changing ductwork.
  7. Get a written proposal. It is crucial to have a written, signed proposal before starting any work. Any change to the proposal should also be in writing. Be sure to keep a copy of all paperwork for your records.
  8. Inquire about equipment and labor warranties. Limited warranties vary according to the manufacturer, so make sure you fully understand what you’re getting. Also, don’t forget to inquire about optional extended warranties at the time of purchase.
  9. What about service? Make sure your dealer has qualified service personnel who are not also responsible for installing new equipment. Otherwise you probably can’t get them during the hottest or coldest days when you need them most.
  10. Make sure they’re reachable. There’s nothing more frustrating than having a problem and not being able to get in touch with your dealer. Make sure you can call and talk to a person – not an answering machine.

History of GHAC, Inc.

General Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc
A Company You Can Trust!

1960's

General Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc. was founded in 1968 by Jack Patterson, William Salyers, Charles Lykins, and Dick Dodge to satisfy a growing need for heating and air conditioning systems in new homes being built in the Flatwoods, KY region.

Dick Dodge left the company during the first year, leaving Jack, William and Charles as the three owners.

1970's

The new home market was booming and by the early 1970’s GHAC had become the largest reseller of Amana heating and cooling products in the nation.

GHAC opened a branch office in Minford, OH which was managed by Charles Lykins.

1980's

After Charles' retirement, William Salyers took-over management of the Minford,OH office, which later moved to Portsmouth, OH. Jack Patterson, stayed to manage the Flatwoods, KY office.

The housing market had started to slow and General Heating had to find new areas of business to keep its employees working. That led to the establishment of the commercial division of GHAC, Inc.

Two big changes took place in the residential division as well. The first was a shift from new home installations to installing more replacement systems - as equipment we had installed over the past 15-20 years was getting older and less efficient. The second was a change in equipment brands. York Heating & Cooling products became GHAC's primary equipment offering.

1990's

After graduating from Transylvania University in 1991, Will Patterson began his full-time employment with GHAC as Residential/Light Commercial Service Manager.

GHAC continued to grow both the residential and commercial divisions of the company. Additional property was purchased adjacent to the Flatwoods office where a sheetmetal fabrication shop, a vehicle maintenance garage and multiple storage buildings were erected.

2000's

After William's retirement in 2005, the Portsmouth office was closed and all business operations were transferred to the original Flatwoods, KY location.

Today

GHAC is one of the region’s most trusted names in the residential and commercial heating and air conditioning business. Our customers can trust that GHAC is here to provide them with the very best service and products, and that we intend to be here for their future needs.

General Heating & Air
A Tri-State Tradition.

About

A Company You Can Trust!

Serving the Tri-State since 1968

1960's

In 1968, four men (Jack Patterson, William Salyers, Charles Lykins and Dick Dodge) purchased a building and piece of property at the corner of Argillite Rd and Beth Ann Dr in Flatwoods, KY to
start General Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc. At that time, industry in the area was vibrant, led by Armco (AK Steel), CSX and Ashland Oil, and the Flatwoods area was booming with new houses.

1970's

Central heating and air conditioning in homes was relatively new, and General Heating was installing new gas furnaces and air conditioners in nearly every new house that was being built in the area.

In the 1970's, General Heating was the largest reseller of Amana heating and cooling products in the nation. In the late 1970's, GHAC expanded its residential operations by opening a branch office in Minford, OH.

1980's

The GHAC Commercial Division was started to focus on new commercial and industrial facilities. Property adjacent to the Flatwoods office was purchased where a sheetmetal fabrication shop was erected as well as additional warehousing buildings, and a vehicle maintenance garage.

General Heating & Air Conditioning saw some of its largest growth in the 1980's, reaching over 100 full-time employees. In the mid-1980's, GHAC began a commercial controls division, installing Trane Building Automation Systems.

GHAC also started what would become a long-term relationship with York International (later purchased by Johnson Controls), servicing, selling and installing York Heating and Cooling products. The Minford, OH branch moved its operations to downtown Portsmouth, OH.

1990's

Current company president, Will Patterson began full-time employment with GHAC after graduating from Transylvania University in Lexington, KY. Honeywell Building Controls was added as a second product offering in the commercial controls division.

2010's

After many years of growth and success at the Flatwoods, KY location, GHAC celebrated its 50-Year anniversary by moving its central operations into the old Ashland Oil building in Russell, KY. This larger facility gave GHAC the ability to expand both its residential and commercial operations into the future.

Our focus and specialty is quality installation, service and repair of heating and air conditioning systems - both residential and commercial.

For more than 45 years, GHAC, Inc. has been the trusted name in HVAC for customers all across the Tri-State.
